I do not often read picture books aloud to my older son and husband but last week was an exception. I read aloud "People Don't Bite People." The concept is simple, yet enduring as parents of toddlers in every generation struggle with this behavior. What makes this book great is the humor. The language is brilliant, funny and sophisticated. Toddlers and adults will giggle at the hilarious scenarios and rhymes.

Wow, this book tugged on my heartstrings Erin Entrada Kelly mastered that particular ache that middle school brings. These amazing characters will stick with you. It touches on some of the same topics as her past books: social ostracisation, bullying, friendship, etc. I enjoyed the facts at the beginning of Charlotte's chapters, the dictionary definitions at the beginning of each section that related to the story, and the integration of nerdy science trivia. Hand this one to kids also feeling the ache of middle school or readers who enjoy character driven stories.

This is one of those books recommended to me by others. I adored the gorgeous settings and descriptive writing... until that is all that this book became and I started to lose interest. The first half of the book flows well and at a fast enough pace to keep it interesting but I felt the story slowed down and I ended up putting it down. A couple months passed and I checked out the downloadable audiobook, much better! If you enjoy world building and descriptive language you might consider this title, but I would definitely go with the audio version if you decide to give this book a shot.
