It’s ironic that the first time I tried reading The Raven Boys, I absolutely hated it. Now, I find it hard to describe just how much I love these books. The premise to the first book describes a prophecy and seeing the spirit of a not-yet-dead boy and the search for a long-gone Welsh king. But this book/series is also about: unforgettable characters who are difficult and complicated and complex and who are not always likable but are always worth loving, an epic quest that build and builds and builds to an even more epic conclusion, and magic. So much magic. Magic and magicians and psychics and kings and dreams and nightmares and ravens and fast cars and trees and starlight and sacrifice and discovery. The books are breathtaking in their beauty and can be profoundly sad, but there is always light and love in the darkness. The Raven Cycle has a permanent place in my heart.
