It has been a long, long time since I read a contemporary romance. And I really appreciate the open dialogue and the more forward attitude towards dating, relationships, and romance in general. I think I need to get out of the historicals to breathe in the contemporary scene on a regular basis. Despite the general entertaining cast of characters and a reasonable murder mystery, there was something off throughout the book. Whether it be a disconnection in a dialogue, jokes that don't really make sense, and a straight up name change halfway through the book (albeit used only once) that gave me the impression that the book might've needed an extra set of editing and polishing.
