Everyone Brave Is Forgiven
Audiobook CD - 2016
London, 1939. The day war is declared, Mary North leaves finishing school unfinished, goes straight to the War Office, and signs up. Tom Shaw decides to ignore the war, until he learns his roommate Alistair Heath has unexpectedly enlisted. Then the conflict can no longer be avoided. Young, bright, and brave, Mary is certain she'd be a marvelous spy. When she is, bewilderingly, made a teacher, she finds herself defying prejudice to protect the children her country would rather forget. Tom, meanwhile, finds that he will do anything for Mary.

Add a CommentOne of the best WWII novels that I have read. Not quite as excellent as All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, but still one of my recent favorites. Highly recommend. Kristi & Abby Tabby
Wonderful British humor, snappy rat-a-tat dialog, and the scope of WWII. Given the scope of the setting, the ending (telegraphed from many chapters before) is a bit of an emotional letdown after all the cliffhangers. Definitely worth a listen.
So much in this book to make you laugh (British humor), cry, and gain insight into British society during WW II.
For a higly readable book on Malta during WW2 find the Kappillan of Malta by Nicolas Monsarrat. The king of England awarded the George Cross to the whole nation of Malta for their heroism during WW2- the only time this has happened.
