Another brutal rendition of the illegal drug problems viz-a-viz the US (as usual the "good guys") and Latin America. We have most of the components in place in"Sicario" which is to say urban squalor, cross-border tunnels, US/Mexico dividing walls, mass murders, good guys, bad guys, an insane arrangement of military hardware, and in this instance a naive almost "rebel without a cause or a clue" dilemma-ridden FBI agent acted out by Emily Blunt! To pick on Ms. Blunt alone is unfair. Josh Brolin's cock-sure attitude and smirking visage hardly make up for her apparent naivity, and Benicio Del Toro's bleak and brutal character could be loaned out and placed in another grisly "Payback" movie. The fact that Rotten Tomatoes rated "Sicario" 93% tells this viewer that the bar is continuing to be lowered regards what is a good intelligent watch and what is merely another good guys/bad guys rendition of the old cowboys and Indians. In concluding, we as the audience are shown that "sicario" means "hitman" and has its roots in Jews killing occupying Romans some 2000 years ago or so. Perhaps the latter premise might make a more sensible movie some day.
PS I advise anyone to stay away from Juarez!!!

Brilliant, hardcore, unflinching journey along with the federal agencies and the minds of its members. Solid script, every action sequence served with precision. Character acting of every single character of the highest levels. Now this is what an action/suspense movie should be. Stayed focused from beginning to end.

Very good movie, high action. This movie would be very appealing to someone who understands the cartel's and the drugs being moved into the USA.

Great Movie! It's shows what the average person doesn't see what happens across the US-Mexico Border. Allegedly based on true events? This movie packs a punch with gut wrenching drama & action. Mature viewing recommended.

Gripping look at the drug wars in the USA. Excellent performances all around but the stand outs were Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro. Worth watching.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve in 2015, this American crime thriller depicts the illegal drug trafficking situation in Mexico.
Although the tense and bloody situation well documented graphically, the script seems ill-contrived with a loose and unsatifactory ending.
What a flop!
What a pity!

Stylishly shot with a striking film score that portends death and doom, Denis Villeneuve's Sicario tries for moral ambiguity (both sides do "bad things"), but really there is no contest in what is evil here. Miscast as an FBI SWAT team lead, Emily Blunt sleepwalks through the movie looking like a deer in the headlights. Channeling a chilling Brad Pitt, the vengeful Benicio Del Toro dominates every scene he's in.

I thought this movie was really good. Too bad it took me 3 years to see it.

Rated 5/10. This is quite a grim and gritty action thriller about the world of drug gangs.

The plot is okay, but I found the acting so-so.

Overall, my rating reflects that it's average.

A truly excellent movie about the efforts to fight the Mexican drug cartels, a personal vendetta by one of the characters, and the deceptive practices needed to take the fight to the leaders of the cartels. Highly recommended for adults...not children.

Matt: Fausto Alarcon "El Verdugo". Every day across that border, people are kidnapped or killed by his hand or with his blessing. To find him would be like discovering a vaccine. You understand the value of that?

On Medellin:
Matt: Now, you listen. You went up the wrong tunnel. You saw things you shouldn't have seen.
Kate: What is Medellin?
Matt: Medellin? Medellin refers to a time when one group controlled every aspect of the drug trade, providing a measure of order that we could control. And until somebody finds a way
to convince 20% of the population to stop snorting and smoking that shit, order's the best we can hope for.

Alejandro: You should move to a small town, where the rule of law still exists. You will not survive here. You are not a wolf. And this is the land of wolves now.

The FBI agents:
Dave: She's been leading our kidnap response team for three years. Put her through the grinder since she got here, and she hasn't blinked. She's in the front line. Nobody's gonna be happier than Kate to see these guys go down.
Matt: So, she's a thumper.
Dave: Today was her fifth O.l.S. 5-and-0, not bad for a rookie.
Matt: She never worked cases?
Dave: Been kicking doors since day one.
Matt: I like her already. What about the partner? He seen any action?
Dave: He's only been with us 18 months.
Matt: What's his background?
Dave: He's a sharp kid. ROTC scholarship to Maryland, did a tour in Iraq, got his law degree from UNC. He's green, but he's good.
Matt: No lawyers on this train. Just give me the girl.
