Although often credited with spurring the "third wave" of feminism, Riot Grrrl seemed to many to be a blip in the media. Riot Grrrl paved the way for the more mainstream "girl power" phenomena, but was just the beginning of a real feminist punk movement that seldom gets discussed. This film tackles the past thirty years of female involvement in DIY music, opens up a dialogue about feminism coupled with issues of race, class, motherhood, and gender, and gives a more complete picture of how women have participated in the DIY community. Amy Oden, a Washington, D.C. filmmaker, follows up her 2004 examination of hardcore in D.C. and Maryland with this new documentary, for which she traveled the U.S. and Canada for two years conducting interviews with women like Kathleen Hanna (of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre), Slade (of Tribe 8), Cynthia Connolly, Allison Wolfe (of Bratmobile), and more.
