A good tale about caring for others and helping to bring out the best in people.

Jarel is a space-man sent to conquer the barbarian planet of Andrecia. Can you believe it? The idiot farmers and villagers actually think his spaceship is some kind of dragon. Of course, his laser-weapons make short work of the savages. In no time at all Jarel's people will have established a beachhead and be ready to conquer Andrecia…

Georyn is a would-be hero, poor but brave enough to try to defeat the dragon that has been burning and destroying the surrounding countryside. Many have died before him, but those powerful and wealthy knights with their fancy armor and horses didn't have what name has. Georyn has a powerful enchantress on his side, with secret magic she's promised to share...

Elena is an anthropologist on a study-team from a civilization so technologically advanced it makes ours look like stone-age tribesmen. They're so advanced they've actually figured out the mathematical model for what happens to a primitive culture – like Jarel's and Georyn's – when it finds out one as advanced as hers exists: despair, stagnation and death. Yet Elena cannot stand idly by while Jarel and his robots conquer and destroy Georyn's world.

So she pretends to be something she's not, taking advantage of both the simple peasant's superstition AND the spaceman's fear of unknown mind-powers. Even though she's not even supposed to be on Andrecia, she knows she can make this work. She has too: two entire civilizations and the safety of her team depend on her. The only thing she never counted on was falling in love...
