Believe in Steven! Steven Universe is a half-human, half-Gem hero who's learning to save the world with the magical powers that come from his belly button. Steven may not be as powerful as the Crystal Gems. Or as smart. But that doesn't stop him from joining Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl on their magical adventures - where Steven always finds a surprising way to save the day.

When I first saw the trailer for Steven Universe, it seemed like a bit of an Adventure Time/Gravity Falls/Sailor Moon rip off. However, I recently decided to put my skepticism aside and give Steven Universe a try. I am so happy that I did because it has become my new favorite T.V. show. The story takes place in a fictional town on Earth called Beach City, where three Crystal Gems (Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet) serve as magical, intergalactic guardians along with a young, half-Gem named Steven - the titular hero. Together, they must protect the residents of Beach City while going on all sorts of crazy adventures. With heartwarming stories (akin to Bob's Burgers), well developed characters that you grow to love, and a stunning visual design, Steven Universe is seriously awesometacular. This particular volume collects a random sampling of 12 episodes from the first season and is worth checking out. Hopefully, Cartoon Network will bless us with a full season DVD release in the near future.

I love this series! It is so sweet and fun, but also has a lot of heart. And I love the diversity of the characters in appearance and personality. Be aware, though - this is not the complete first season. A lot of episodes are missing and the ones here aren't even in chronological order. This is more like the first hit to get you addicted to the show.
