Although an award winning book presented as a metaphor of Hungary during WW II, I found it contained few redeeming qualities. It is anti-Soviet, harkening back to mid-century, yet why it was written and published as the Soviet Union was disintegrating is strange. As well, the fact that the two inseparable twin brothers took separate paths at the end of the book was inexplicable.
