While China is traumatized by military cliques during the Warlord Era in the 1920s, Japan has grown into the most powerful foreign national group in Shanghai. Although the city is being torn by the Japanese, the upscale cabaret nightclub Casablanca remains a haven for a mishmash of clienteles, including the mustachioed entrepreneur Ku and the sultry singsong girl Kiki. Ku is none other than the legendary hero Chen Zhen in disguise, who singlehandedly avenged his mentor's death.

Not sure how this item is tagged as "Films for the hearing impaired, and
Video recordings for the hearing impaired", when there is no subtitles.
The disc is badly damaged so what I got was scrambled images and broken dialogues in the first part of the film. The dialogues are mainly in Mandarin and some in Japanese.

Be warned:
DVD video output is in PAL format. Since many US DVD players and TVs only display NTSC format, the DVD may not play for you.

DVD is only in Mandarin. No other languages available for the menus, audio, or subtitles.

While a US-market DVD exists, with English audio or subtitle choices, this is not that DVD. There's a different NYPL entry for that DVD.

The plot is not plausible. The only thing I got out of this film is a few good fight sequences, and the depiction of the Shanghai night life in the 1920's. Other than that, the film is mediocre. My DVD is Chinese only with no subtitles. Be warmed.
