A brilliant story to emphasize the simple truth behind the value of honesty. The only child in China who cannot grow a flower with the seeds the Emperor has given out - who is normally the one with the green thumb - faces the Emperor with shame and an empty pot. Unknowingly, the Emperor was looking for just this child, the one who was honest enough to show up since all the seeds were cooked beans. His honesty and courage are rewarded as he gains the entire kingdom and becomes their new Emperor.

In important books for character development, having integrity in a world that could much more honesty.

Recommend! Lovely story of a boy who tells the difficult truth and does the right thing, thus winning honor. Read it several times to my 4.5 and 6.5 year olds.
