The author is a medical doctor and has a degree in literature. Readers are lucky to pick up this book and find a story backed by 3 years of research. Ethical dilemmas will make you wonder, what would I do, what course of action is right?

Not bad for a summer read. The Seattle references were fun at first but the author seemed to go overboard with them. Many didn't move the story but did prove she has some familiarity with the city. I enjoyed more the descriptions of living poor in the gorgeous Oly Penn.
The mystery patient and various medical issues seemed a bit farfetched but hey, it's like I said, not bad for a summer read.

This character-driven story centers on Renee (Raney) Remington in a small town on NW Washington's Olympic Peninsula. Narration jumps back and forth between present and past to give us Raney's life story and stays geographically local, just as Raney does. It was compelling--I wanted to find out what happened and what will happen. The conclusion is bittersweet, but satisfying.

I enjoyed the first 2/3 of the book, but the last 1/3 was extremely disappointing. It was as if the author had a relationship go bad while writing the book, and then changed course with the book and wrote her own pain into the book.

While this wasn't my usual choice of book, it came highly recommended and now I know why. I was hooked from the first page! Gemini reads like a thriller, love story, and lyrically written novel, all in one. Very "shivery" in a good way. I was never impatient with how Cassella unfolded the story bit by bit, because I learned something new in every chapter. The ending was, while not precisely happy, very satisfying - much more so than a strictly happy ending. Read this book!

Northwest setting (Seattle and Olympic peninsula); medicine, ethics -- a great combination. For fans of Jodi Picoult's earlier books (this is more understated than some of Picoult's latest titles).

She resisted sinking into such rhetoric the night Jane Doe was whisked across Puget Sound in a medevac helicopter to Beacon Hospital’s intensive care unit, to Charlotte.
