This little book is a very appealing introduction to mindfulness meditation for children and their parents. In a simple and accessible way, it describes what mindfulness is and how mindfulness-based practices can help children calm down, become more focused, fall asleep more easily, alleviate worry, manage anger, and generally become more patient and aware. The book contains eleven practices that focus on just these scenarios, along with short examples and anecdotes throughout. Included with purchase is an audio CD with guided meditations, voiced by Myla Kabat-Zinn, who along with her husband, Jon Kabat-Zinn, popularized mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) as a therapeutic approach.

If the CD won’t play #5, start it from #4 to get to #5. #6-11 didn’t work for me at all.
The book is intended for adults to read. It’s not a picture book.
I like the idea behind the book and CD, but it seemed to me just the idea “sit still, be calm, relax, clear your mind, let any thoughts that come up pass away without judgment” repeated in different words for 100 pages or 60 minutes.

The remarkable little book contains everything a parent needs in order to teach their child (and themselves) about mindfulness. It is accessible to all levels of practice, and includes an audio CD of guided exercises. The straightforward approach by the author uses progressive exercises that kids (and their parents) can use to cultivate mindfulness, inner knowing and emotional intelligence.

A quick but immensely helpful introduction to parenting a mindful child. With all the stimulation in the environment these days - TV! Youtube! Video games! Facebook! - children & their parents need a way to step back from the action, get calm, and process their experience.
Highly recommend this - I bought two copies to share with family. The Library has also used this book in their family yoga class.
