Equal parts electrifying rockumentary and epic family love story, A Band Called Death chronicles the incredible fairy-tale journey of what happened almost three decades later, when a dusty 1974 demo tape made its way out of the attic and found an audience several generations younger. Playing music impossibly ahead of its time, Death is now being credited as the first black punk band (hell...the first punk band!), and are finally receiving their long overdue recognition as true rock pioneers.

I really enjoyed this.

Resurrecting obscure rock bands or cult acts for DVD has become something of a cottage industry. In recent years we've had movies about The Monks, Roky Erickson, Scott Walker and the New York Dolls. This may take the cake for hidden gems, as this Detroit trio (all brothers) never released an album. It wasn't until 2009 that Drag City finally released 7 tracks on CD. This doc. chronicles the history of the band, the difficulty their name posed, the struggles of leader David Hackney and their unlikely comeback. Fans of proto-punk bands like the Stooges and the MC5 will dig these guys.

Very well done documentary. This movie was interesting, informative, and worse seeing!! I recommend this movie for all to see. Well worth the price of admission to any theater.

An interesting film about the Hackney family, especially, David, the leader of the band called Death. However, it would have been better with the inclusion of a full song by the band.

Heartfelt, feel-good movie which reminded me in several ways of another excellent documentary by the name of ''Searching for Sugar Man''. Very much worth a viewing.
