In order to let things cool down from their latest heist, Popeye and his group of thieves go to Macau on a job. But the mastermind behind this job is none other than Popeye's old partner Macau Park, who escaped with 68kg of gold several years ago on their last job together. Macau Park brought Chinese thieves as well but little did they know what Macau Park planned for each one of them. His plan takes an unexpected turn when Popeye brings Pepsi, a genius safe-cracker and old flame of Macau Park, to settle the old score.

When the story first began to unfold, it looked a little like Ocean's Eleven, but no. You'll see very quickly that the members of the team are working at cross purposes. The biggest mystery is what Macau Park, the ring leader, is really up to. Is he trying to acquire a priceless diamond, make up with an old flame or settle a score? And if it's all of the above, how does that work out?

The action scenes are fun, intense and even glamorous at the beginning, but the shoot out towards the end is brutal and bleak; once again, I'm impressed with the range a Korean film has. The stories (and fates) of the characters are just as varied: there's the glad-handing, would-be leader Popeye, the wounded, betrayed Pepsi, the selfish and amoral (even for a thief) Yennical, the world weary Chen and Chewing Gum, the frightening idiotic Andrew and the secretive Julie- and that's just for starters. While you're probably going to satisfied with what happens in the end to the main characters, not everyone is going to get what they deserve. Finally, the movie is not without humor; the scenes in the beginning and end especially are hysterical, and it's due in no small part to Gianna Jun, who's come a long way since White Valentine.

There's something for everyone here; if you like Korean films, watch it now

Calling the movie, The Thieves, a // debonair caper \\ is an extreme understatement; the director, Choi Dong-Hoon, is a genius at capturing the best of a star-studded cast.
While all the actors were superlative, Gianna Jun's performance was so exquisitely understated it exploded off the screen - - simply marvelous!
A mixture of comedic dialog with action, suspense, intricate plotting and bittersweetness tossed in, a witch's brew of devious criminal perfection!
While Oceans Eleven kept putting me to sleep, this wicked movie will keep you jazzed long after you have viewed it. [There are hilarious little jokes interspersed throughout this movie that can easily be missed if one is not focused upon it {and I do not mean the jokes between the main characters} - - also, the DVD I viewed was severely scratched - - quite an operation muddling through it, so if you can't find a good one, it is well worth the price to purchase this most entertaining film.]

An almost scene for scene remake of Ocean's Eleven.

Lavishly produced, entertaining caper film. Longer than it should be.

A few frames into the film and realized that I had seen this before, may be via Netflix. Though 2Hrs and 15min long, none of the scenes was boring. The crime caper featured a crew of Korean and Chinese thieves and filmed in Hong Kong, Pusan and Macau. Fun and entertaining.

Fun film to watch. Plot is a bit convoluted and can be confusing if you miss a scene. (I ended up rewatching some of the scenes and it was much clearer.) The upside is some cool action scenes involving ropes on the side of a building that haven't been seen much in Hollywood thrillers. Movie also had a big cast, but there was enough good character development in the leads to keep things grounded.

Glamorous view of high-stakes thievery, but way too many characters, plot lines, and cultural allusions to keep our attention.

Not bad, quite entertaining.

Apart from the Korean and Chinese cast you would expect this bandit/robbery film to have come from Hollywood. It also has a very convoluted plot, with plenty of action scenes and a couple of great looking actresses. However, as a lover of modern, Korean cinema I may say I still prefer their quiet, low-budget films such as 'Poetry'. The Hollywood action/thriller film lovers will like this one.
