The Midwestern resort town of Pemkowet boasts a diverse population: eccentric locals, wealthy summer people and tourists by the busload. Not to mention fairies, sprites, vampires and a whole host of eldritch folk, presided over by Hel, a reclusive Norse goddess. To Daisy, fathered by an incubus and raised by a single mother, it's home. And as Hel's enforcer and liaison to the Pemkowet Police Department, it's up to her to ensure relations between the communities run smoothly. But when a murder occurs, Daisy must work with her crush, officer Cody, to keep the town safe.

Kick-Ass. This book was awesome. I loved the story, especially the main character Pixy Stix-- I mean Daisy. Plus you know, any author that is able to put awesome 80s B-movies in their story like Pee Wee's Big Adventure AND a sneaky LEGEND reference, has got my vote. Oh yeah. So read this book-- devour it in the four days that it took me to read it. And onto the next book in the series. woot woot!

I like the protagonist and the general premise and story. As usual, the only dissonance I feel is with the BFF relationship. Seriously, who calls their friend "Girlfriend"all the time and gets so offensively over-familiar? Oh well.

I enjoy this book very much. Yes, it is a bit out of the ordinary but I guess that is what I like about it. It held my interest and I am looking forward to the next book about Daisy and Pemkowet. Sometimes it is just good to get lost in a story that is just a bit different. Isn't that why we read...? At least, that is why I read.

I really enjoyed the Kushiel books by Carey so I was curious to see what she did with urban fantasy. If you're expecting the same level of intricacy though you'll be disappointed. It's young adult type stuff really, Buffy the Vampire Slayer only she occasionally says f**k. Still entertaining however, and if you're after a quick, easy, teen-style urban fantasy story then it's worth a few hours of your time.
