I enjoyed watching this again after many years. Daniel Craig does a wonderful job as the police officer who's wife just left him, and is drinking more than he should. The story revolves around a unknown corpse who is found in the ice house of the home of a woman who's husband disappeared years ago. The chief superintendent is obsessed by this cold case, and gleefully intrudes into the woman's life again, after persecuting her when her husband first disappeared. His slanderous actions have turned the whole town against her and the two women friends who moved in to help her with her children and the up keep of the estate. The town calls them lesbians and torment them at any opportunity. The story has some nice twist and is very well acted and beautifully filmed. Worth a watch.

Terrible script!
Excellent acting.

Classic BBC detective murder mystery with one difference - early Daniel Craig with a Scottish accent. This man can act! Lots of plot twists and character twists with a surprisingly enjoyable ending. When I watched the DVD again, I enjoyed the dialogue and plot even more than the first viewing. Highly recommend this very entertaining mystery.

Early Daniel Craig very entertaining. In the mode of English detective movies it starts slowly and grows to a very interesting and entertaining ending.

Surprised at the range Daniel and other cast members show in this. Very much enjoyed the twists and turns as well as Daniel as a Scots policeman.

DVD quality so terrible, I couldn't watch this. It didn't appear very interesting.

Three women in a manor house (are they all lesbians...you decide), one very dead body, a village of "pitchfork" waving locals, and SECRETS. Very good. Very BBC.

If you've read any Minette Walters, you pretty much know how this story goes: shocking crime, conflicted constabulary, feral townsfolk. It's worthwhile for the quality of its production, and glimpses of the stars, including Frances Barber, Daniel Craig, and the unutterably vile Corin Redgrave.

If you like British Mysteries, especially the younger inspector working with the older one. (Morse/Lewis/Midsommer Murders) than this one is right up your alley. I loved it and Daniel Craig is of course amazing. Highly recommended to mystery watchers.
