"Suspense doesn't get smarter than this. Not just recommended but mandatory."--Lee Child
For the second time in his short life, Teddy Clock has survived a massacre. Two years ago, he barely escaped when his entire family was slaughtered. Now, at fourteen, in a hideous echo of the past, Teddy is the lone survivor of his foster family's mass murder. Orphaned once more, the traumatized teenager has nowhere to turn--until the Boston PD puts detective Jane Rizzoli on the case. Determined to protect this young man, Jane discovers that what seemed like a coincidence is instead just one horrifying part of a relentless killer's merciless mission.
Jane spirits Teddy to the exclusive Evensong boarding school, a sanctuary where young victims of violent crime learn the secrets and skills of survival in a dangerous world. But even behind locked gates, and surrounded by acres of sheltering Maine wilderness, Jane fears that Evensong's mysterious benefactors aren't the only ones watching. When strange blood-splattered dolls are found dangling from a tree, Jane knows that her instincts are dead on. And when she meets Will Yablonski and Claire Ward, students whose tragic pasts bear a shocking resemblance to Teddy's, it becomes chillingly clear that a circling predator has more than one victim in mind.
Joining forces with her trusted partner, medical examiner Maura Isles, Jane is determined to keep these orphans safe from harm. But an unspeakable secret dooms the children's fate--unless Jane and Maura can finally put an end to an obsessed killer's twisted quest.

Tension, murdered parents, three surviving kids being hunted down, a mysterious rescuer, a rogue CIA agent, spies, conspiracies and an isolated boarding school. The multiple points of view are a nice addition to the novel . A very satisfying read with an unpredictable and suspenseful ending. Rizolli, the driven homicide detective does her usual hard nosed sleuthing with the help of Frost and Isles.

Gerritsen's writing continues to be tremendous in yet another chapter of the Rizzoli and Isles series. Not quite as good as her previous effort, but terrific none the less; she shows no sign of losing steam with these characters. A fun read that excels just as much with the backstory as it does with the main plot.

The latest entry in the Rizzoli & Isles series finds Boston PD detective Jane Rizzoli investigating the horrific massacre of a well-to do foster family, with fourteen year old Teddy Glock the only witness and survivor. Orphan Teddy had already suffered through the tragic death of his parents two years prior. Coincidence? Or could Teddy be the target? Unsure of the answer, Detective Rizzoli whisks Teddy away from Boston to the secluded Eversong Boarding School, a sanctuary for young victims of violent crimes way up in the secluded Maine wilderness, while she tries to solve the case. However, it is at Eversong that Teddy connects with two other recent arrivals, Will Yablonski and Claire Ward, both of whom have been through the same terrible losses as Teddy. Both parents were killed, and then the caregivers next, all within the same time frame. Panicked over what can no longer be coincidence, Detective Rizzoli pairs up with medical examiner Maura Isles, who happens to be staying at Eversong on vacation visiting a student. Together they must figure out how these three children are linked, and whether this will put all the students at Eversong in jeopardy? Reviewed by DH

Good plot where the truth gets revealed very close to the end so that the reader is guessing who is the bad guy and who is the good guy. The plot involves children of CIA agents who witness the deaths of their families. Gerritsen tells us why they died. I can't get used to her writing style, however. I find myself skipping over pages of filler about Rizzoli's mom's relationship problems. Also annoying are her insertions about the effect of situations on the main me these seem a bit lame...more filler.

Fast paced quick read. Always look forward to a new Rizzoli and Isles mystery.
