The conception of the interpretation is magnificent. However, the performance is not letter-perfect. There are some cracks heard on the brass. The strings give some rough attacks that are not suitable for Bruckner (muscular, full, and accented, yes, but, never rough, with that "g" quasi-scratching sound). Other than these, there are innumerable wonderful things about this performance, done in the same year as Karajan's second stereo recording of this work (the first one was recorded in 1965, while the last one was done in 1989, the year that he died). Another reason for not giving this 5 stars is due to its sound quality, which is not optimal.
