"Raised by loving adoptive parents, San Francisco private investigator Wyatt Hunt never had an interest in finding his birth family-until he gets a chilling text message from an unknown number: "How did ur mother die? The answer is murder, and Hunt takes on a case he never knew existed, one that has lain unsolved for decades. His family's dark past unfurls in dead ends. The texter, who insists the killer is out there, refuses to be identified. The cat-and-mouse game leads Hunt across the country and eventually to places far more exotic and dangerous. As the chase escalates, so does the threat, for the killer has a secret that can only be trusted to the grave"--P. [2] of cover.

I was enjoying this book a lot until about halfways in, when I think the author went a bit too far in trying to set up the plot and ended up ruining what would have been a perfectly good book without the "Jones" subplot. I like Lescroart's work but I don't think this was one of his best books

Probably not the best I've ready by him but a good read nonetheless

I agree with dorothy. I too have a read a number of his other books and found this one the least enjoyable - by a lot. The threads in the story just never connnected

I have enjoyed John Lescroart's books very much and could hardly wait to get this one. However, it did not meet my expectations, perhaps because I was hoping to meet the same cast of characters as his previous books.
It was slow moving, and wordier than necessary in my opinion. Wish I could say it to his face.

Sorry John!
