The Hamish MacBeth series is set in the Scottish highlands and features a detective who doesn’t want to leave his village. Death of a Witch follows the style of other entries in the series. Beaton is fond of the highlanders while poking fun at them as well. Humour is also injected in MacBeth’s relationship with women. At one point he has three young women who are circling him with two of them seeing the others as rivals. The murders are serious and treated as such. There are clues and red herrings although the clues aren’t adequate to solve the murder ahead of time. All in all Death of Witch is a respectable entry into a fun series.
