I think the general description fits well here. The author's writing style is quite "lively" and colorful... certainly entertaining. I was annoyed that she took 10 pages to say over and over what she was about to write about and what the following chapters would contain (I kept thinking, "Just get to it already!"), but overall this is a good garden how-to for someone just starting out, who owns their first house (or their first yard worth digging into, I should say), or who is just looking to get back to basics. I think the book didn't really appeal especially to me (as I have gardened and read quite a few how-to's at this point already), but I think that's just my personal take. Certainly if you have a brown thumb and want to make yours greener you should pick this up.
