This is a fantastic introduction to the work of Richard Thompson, featuring items from Fairport Convention, his partnership with his now ex-wife, Linda Thompson, as well as solo work. A must for any serious fan of music, let alone anybody who appreciates great songwriting or guitar playing.

A career-spanning, 4-CD, 70 plus song box set of the great Richard Thomson that supersedes the earlier compilation, "Watching the Dark." It starts with his first recordings with the groundbreaking English folk-rock band Fairport Convention (whose first 4-5 albums are essential), moves on to his albums with then wife Linda Thompson (two of which are classics), and then covers his fruitful, but somewhat erratic solo career. To the fan who already has much of this material, there are some rare live tracks that make it worthwhile. If you don't already have "Shoot Out the Lights," "I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight," "What We Did On Our Holidays," and "Liege and Lief," start there.

This is a good collection but it's irritating that they edit songs like Calvary Cross. Cutting off Thompson midsolo is pointless. You hear me, Shout Factory?!

Dear Librarian:
How can you deny me the right to place a hold on an item in your catalogue? Either you have it or you don't. I don't care if i have to wait for months.
Respectfully, Mark Laing
