"Kelley Winslow is living her dream. Seventeen years old, she has moved to New York City and started to work with a theatre company. Sure, she’s only an understudy for the Avalon Players, a third-tier repertory company so far off- Broadway it might as well be in Hoboken, but things are looking up—the lead has broken her ankle and Kelley’s about to step into the role of Titania the Faerie Queen in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Faeries are far more real than Kelley thinks, though, and a chance encounter in Central Park with a handsome young man named Sonny Flannery plunges her into an adventure she could never have imagined. Sonny is a Janus Guard, charged by Auberon, the King of Winter, with watching over the gate into the land of Faerie, which lies within Central Park. For Sonny, the pretty, young actress is an enigma. Strong and willful, she sparks against his senses like a firecracker, and he can’t get her out of his mind. As Halloween approaches and the Samhain Gate opens, Sonny and Kelley find themselves drawn to each other—and into a terrible plot that could spell disaster for both New York and Faerie alike." --From the publisher.

An enjoyable book for a teen fantasy fiction reader. I have read this kind of thing before - young adult experiencing a lot of firsts - new job, away from home, young love, heir to the Faerie Realm, monster death threats. . . The first book in the "Faerie Trilogy" series. I was satisfie... Read More »

Lesley Livingston (aka Melissa Marr jr.) has created yet another (-insert dramatic sigh-) overly-formal tale of faerie. The last thing I need to hear -again- is another looney tale about crazy and endlessly vain creatures. I don't need to be brought back into a world dominated by four ambitious c... Read More »

A pretty good story involving faeries, New York City, and a gate to the faerie realm in Central Park. Livingston puts a different spin on some of the characters you may be familiar with - Oberon, Puck, and Queen Mabh - and I enjoyed seeing her take on some of the other creatures we've heard of - redcaps, piskies, selkies, and even a Siren named Chloe make appearances.
As a friend says, the book doesn't necessarily bring anything new to the Faerie genre, but it's a good, solid story with a couple of interesting plot twists.

I have read this kind of thing before - young adult experiencing a lot of firsts - new job, away from home, young love, heir to the Faerie Realm, monster death threats. . . The first book in the "Faerie Trilogy" series. I was satisfied with the ending to this work but probably won't make an effort to read the next 2 books.

I had really high hopes for this book and it's been on my to-read list for quite some time. I really wanted to love it, but unfortunately it just didn't impress me. I loved all the faerie lore, but the dialogue between Sonny and Kelley was rather annoying. I haven't decided if I want to read the other 2 books in the trilogy.

This was such a great book!
I started reading it because I was reading the Starling series that is written by Lesley Livingston as well, which is all about the Fennrys Wolf and how things happen with him after this trilogy. When I began reading this book I became overly excited and jumped for joy at the mere mention of his name (obsessed much?...maybe just a little...or a lot....:D)
But as I read more I came to love the characters in this book as well.
I am currently starting the third book and can't wait to see the outcome!

This was such a great book! It is a wonderfully different love story with lots of twists and turns. Trust me, you won't be disappointed If you read this series.

I love this book!! This book describes the begining of an epic love of two Fairie Folks. The main character is a mysterious girl who lost both parents but lives with her aunt. The male character is a guard to a magical gate.

I really liked this book, when i first got it I didn't think I would like it, I thought it was for kids. It proved me wrong this book was amazing I was really happy when the book got chosen to be picked as a Stellar book award nominee. I also read the sequel and the last book in the trilogy. This book kept me reading and wondering what's going to happen next, and waiting for the next book.
