This reprint of the 1967 book is a charmingly cozy double-murder mystery. Thomas Harding, a retired and bored businessman, discovers a hidden priest hole complete with a skeleton in the drawing room of his historic country house. By researching the history of the aristocratic family who once owned the house with a mixture of genealogical and detecting methods Harding and friends solve the ancient murder and help expose the villain in the village’s present-day murder case.
I have loved every one of the Catherine Aird books I have read, and this one is no exception. Very well-plotted, cleverly written with the occasional laugh and generally an enjoyable read. I can't understand why these books haven't been adapted for television. If you like the Georgette Heyer mysteries, you will like these.
