Series Two, Finding the VoiceDVD - 2006
Miriam Toews has found she can write 100-150 pages before realizing that a character isn't working. Janette Turner Hospital frequently struggles with her "radiant conception" of her writing versus what she's actually gotten down on paper. Colm Toibin does not relish the necessary craft of re-writing and calls it "dull, dull work." These and other writers emphasize the importance of getting voice right, learning to persist through interminable drafts and overcoming the challenges of the writer-editor relationship.
