A 19th-century French priest discovered something in his mountain village at the foot of the Pyrenees which enabled him to amass and spend a vast fortune. The story which this book tells begins with what seems to be buried treasure and then turns into an historical detective story - a modern Grail quest leading back through cryptically coded parchments, secret societies, the Knights Templar, the Cathar heretics of the 12th and 13th centuries, and a dynasty of obscure French kings deposed more than 1300 years ago.

Add a Commentvery fun to read but take it and the history it presents cautiously >> good to get ideas for fiction or films but actuall history is suspect ~ 420 I read it years before Da vinci code
very educational with several theories explored
Interesting fiction! I say only because the whole basis of the book is based upon "Dossiers Secrets". This was written by Pierre Plantard and Philippe de Ch%C3%A9risey under the pseudonym of "Philippe Toscan du Plantier." It meant to show lineage back to the Merovingian dynasty. They wanted to revive the monarch in France in the 1960's.
