Great AthletesBook - 1992
The first in an on-going collection designed to meet the needs of the middle school and high school age reader, this thoroughly interesting and entertaining 20-volume biographical reference examines the lives and careers of some 730 athletes, in 43 different sports, from all over the world. The articles are weighted toward the most popular sports, but include sports that have popularity in other areas of the world (e.g. sled dog racing, kayak racing, fencing). The 8 3/4 x11" size allows for easy handling, and for the inclusion of oversized photos, screened panels, and creative graphics. All of the athletes' biographies are arranged alphabetically, and each includes a photograph of the athlete and appropriate sports statistics. The series contains a time line/chronology, a 400 term glossary, and indices by name of athlete, country of origin, and individual sport. A new, illustrated companion series will be issued each year, the next to be Great events. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
