Fanciful and fun. I never tire watching Gary Grant on screen, he's just a great actor.

VERY GOOD 1944 comedic b/w film version of Joseph Kesselring's 1941 Broadway hit. Cary Grant does a fine job in this comedic role - and I especially enjoyed seeing Priscilla Lane as his romantic lady. Fun performances by the two aunties, too.

Things that definitely deserve the hype this classic gets:
-The plot (our main character discovers his beloved aunts perform "mercy killings" to old, lonely men and bury them in the basement with the help of his brother who believes he's Teddy Roosevelt)
-The actresses who play the aunts, who easily steal the show, and the actor who plays "Teddy Roosevelt"
-The title (seriously, best title ever)
Overall, though, I thought the comedy was a little forced. Still, this is a classic worth watching, at the very least just to say you've watched it. And since I'm about the only person who didn't rate this movie four or more stars, you'll probably enjoy it more than I did.

What a wonderful old movie! Cary Grant has impeccable comic timing and does a great double-take. The story clips along with sparking patter and--comedy ensues.

Frank Capra left us so many wonderful films. Arsenic and Old Lace Is just plain zany. The characters here are over the top and yet so sincere. They have ridiculous ideas but they are completely unaware of there consequences. One of Frank Capra best films!

Very funny stage to screen slapstick adaptation from Frank Capra. Cary Grant's comedic timing and facial expressions were hysterical. And agreed, those cute little aunties were adorable, especially the plump and waddling one. Raymond Massey was pretty creepy, and the rat-like Peter Lorre was always a perfect sniveling sidekick. Fun flick.

Mortimer Brewster: "Yes, operator, I'd like the Happy Dale Sanatorium, Happy Dale, New York. ...Come on, operator, what's taking so long? They're just across the river. I could swim it faster! No, I don't want the Happy Dale Laundry. I want the Happy Dale Sanatorium. Sanatorium, sanatorium, sanatorium. Yes, yes, like a broken record. Hello -- what? They're busy? Busy? Look, they're busy and you're dizzy. No, I am not drunk, madam, but you've given me an idea!"
