A reasonable overview of roofing terms and the overall process of re-roofing a house, focusing on asphalt composition shingle techniques. If you want to use this book as a reference to do a DIY re-roof of your own house, there's a couple of problems which would make this a poor choice. There's plenty of details, but the author often completely leaves out the main objectives of the procedure he's describing. For example, he seems completely unable to clearly explain the shingle pattern he's attempting to achieve. But he's happy to describe a 25 step method to achieve it. He'd have done better for the novice reader if he first explained the basic idea, then the plusses and minuses of his particular method compared to alternatives, and only then how it is done. The second problem, there are numerous text editing errors, such as referencing a certain page for more information, but if you turn to that page, it has nothing to do with that subject. Same problem with many of the photo captions: They often don't seem to match the photo. If you just want to get some terminology under your belt so you can talk with your professional roofer, this book is ok for that. But for anything beyond, there are better alternatives.
