Magnificent prose that portrays blue-collar Louisiana. There is less Robicheaux angst over his Vietnam experiences. The tense action remains as our hero responds to a corrupt politician and those who put him in power. I have been reading these books in chronological order and look forward to reading them all again. The imagery almost overwhelms me as I read, slowly at times. Burkes books are best read this way, savoring the images he evokes. Would you rush through a wonderful meal?
