HOMEBODY was written by Joanna Gaines, home design guru and co-star of HGTV’s Fixer Upper. Big on inspiration with lots of luscious photos, this book is not so much a how-to but a guide that helps the reader create an inviting personal space. Much of the book’s chapters are organized by room or function. Throughout the volume Gaines invites readers to discover the foundational design style (farmhouse, modern, rustic, industrial, traditional, boho) or style combination that speaks to them. I did much flipping back and forth while exploring this book and came away with new confidence on how I will approach my own home decor. Much of this work reflects Gaines’ signature brand, and fans of Fixer Upper may recognize several rooms/houses from the series.

Loved this book, have so many ideas because of it, loved her story and her style

I liked some of the principles, but I don't like the examples, and I couldn't identify my style because my style was not represented in this. Most of these rooms are spare and neutral, and while I appreciate the tidiness, all of them seemed to blend together. There was so much white it made me dizzy. For those who want rustic, minimalist, or industrial homes and have the money to follow these guidelines (custom bathroom mirrors? An entire guide to choosing a chandelier?) this would be a diamond, but that's not me. I wish it would have addressed a more flavorful selection of examples that could be used by someone who loves color and bold choices (not just in the small rooms).

Beautiful styles of homes showcased. I wish she would have shown smaller home dwellings and rooms, though. Many of our own entryways are tiny and most of us don't have bedroom-sized laundry rooms. :( That being said, I really like the index at the back of the book where you can find your style on the pages and flip back through them. Not all pages are marked though. There's also a design page at the back to photocopy & design your own room. I enjoyed finding my 3 styles of home!

Nice! But not my style at all I felt it would be better if she covers more than one style

The gorgeous, full-page photographs provide tons of inspiration. There are also tips on finding and developing your favorite styles in your own home. While known for shiplap and farmhouse style, the book incorprates a variety of styles that many readers will enjoy.

Earthy tones throughout if that's your style! Plenty of pics for inspiration.

I enjoyed the ideas brought out in this book, plus I'm from Waco Texas so it all just adds to the greatness of the book!

Amazing talent out of Waco Texas. There will be plenty of shiplap!

"I'm a homebody. There's really no other way to say it. The world can feel overwhelming with its pace and noise, its chaos and expectations. Home for me is like the eye of a hurricane. There's a certain calm I experience there no matter what is swirling about on the outside. Home is where I feel safe, it's the place where I am most known and most loved. If you were to ask my family, I'm pretty sure they would tell you the same thing about themselves: there is nowhere they would rather be than home. I think it's because our story is all around us there. When you walk in, you begin to see and experience the journey of us. Our home is layered with family photos, artwork, and objects that weren't chosen simply to make a design statement, but rather to tell the story of who lives there. I believe that what we surround ourselves with — the colors, the materials, the things, can be random and meaningless or they can convey some of the most important truths if we let them.” - p. 8
