1947. A fashion empire rises from the ashes of war-torn Paris, run by the breathtakingly charming and thoroughly ruthless Paul Sabine. But behind the glamour and elegance lies a devastating secret that threatens to destroy the company's delicately built success. Sophisticated and contemporary in tone, this is a story about the price of success, set during a pivotal moment in France's history.

This is an amazing, riveting story.
The acting is supurb, and I know, I work in film!
Tom Riley, especially, and the young girl who gave up her baby, are very moving.
Their acting is stunning, and she is beautiful in the still photography, too.
Whoever did the fashion sketches offset, they are GORGEOUS.
The execution of same, as dresses, are brilliant.
Tom Riley, as the hidden, creative brother, is one of the finest actors in the world, today. His emotions, were so real.

Also, most of the characters were not playing French citizens, they were expatriots of England, Germany, etc. Fyi.

I'm wondering where is the rest of it.....all the stories were ended on cliffhangers...left unfinished...
Does anyone know of a part 2, of this, yet?

I, too, did not enjoy this series. I found it too long winded and the acting poor. Normally every PBS Masterpiece Theatre is a winner, but this one was very tedious to watch.

A world-weary man will do whatever it takes to build a leading fashion house in post WW II Paris. However, the trauma of the war and old/new political alliances wind up affecting him, his American wife, and his work family as they strive for success. This series is well-written and an interesting peek into what the days of haute couture and the rich patronesses were like, including class clashes and a surprise ending. There's also a good portrayal of his brother, the creative designer force behind the house whose rocky maturation involves a rivalry with his older brother, his own destructive tendencies, a thoughtless affair, and a family secret.

what's yer finger doing up there by the gigantic X in the right corner, anyway? the black box with white writing in it, below the box you write in, is the box your mind needs to be concerned with. that, and writing quickly, before clicking on that box, in order to post yer comment. otherwise, you might be timed out before you complete your comment.

I just wrote a long comment and my finger slipped and hit that gigantic X thats up there in the right corner and deleted the entire thing!!!!
Is that X necessary?

Completely awful. I don't know why they called it The Collection - it has nothing to do with the fashion industry. But then, I didn't watch all of it, not being able to get past the Richard Coyle and Frances de La Tour characters.

This series is not sure what it is, a romance, murder mystery or war story. One thing you can be sure of is it is bad. The fashion is beautiful but the bad acting can't make up for it. You can not set a film in Paris on fashion and have a staff full of heavy English accents, it blows the setting. All around someone had a lot of money to waste in making this bad film series.

I was hooked from the first episode- hints of all the secrets, post-war appreciation for beauty, different morals of the time - all make this worth watching.

All British actors speaking English playing the French roles, that's bad. Frances de la Tour looks and sounds grotesque. I am very surprised that PBS would put their name to something this bad. Only managed to watch almost one episode.
