I have read the books many years ago, and I had just read them recently in anticipation of the movie, my expectations were very high and they nailed it! Blade Runner 2049 takes place in a future that most people dream of, and add action and emotions to a very robotic culture. Certain parts of the movie really changes your views on the main character and the way it ends leaves you wanting a sequel. Overall a very good movie, I would recommend to anyone that have read the books, or just wanting a fun movie to watch. 4.5/5 Stars. @The_Suspect of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Better than the original. Multiple story lines running concurrent. Interesting love story between main character and hologram. Great visuals and acting.

The most boring, confusing sci-fi movie I've ever seen. We kept on waiting for something that would make sense as the hours dragged on and on,ad nauseum. But that didn't happen and everyone went home disappointed. The 1st Blade Runner was fantastic and Harrison Ford did a great job in that movie. I would have given this new Runner movie a minus 4 stars if they had such a rating. Take my word on this disappointing flick and pass it up.

Technicolor misogyny set in a science fiction noir world.

Maybe 4.5 stars if I watch again more closely to more fully understand the plot and the various secondary characters. As the original "Blade Runner" is considered to be one of the top 100 films of all times, this follow-up film would have had to be a lot better to match the original. Actor Ryan Gosling was quite good at being hard-boiled (as he attempted to suppress his human feelings to prevent his "retirement").

not much of a plot. poorly written. Not well written. In our opinion it is a truly pathetic sequel; it had none of the atmosphere of the original.

A worthy follow up to the original

Not as good as the original; very DARK greys, rain, fog, buildings and only a few seconds of the crowded and colourful LA streets that I enjoyed in the first one. The girlfriend's a hologram, the other 2 actresses are ball-busting bitches, so no great female roles. Pretty creepy, all in all, but I guess that's the effect they wanted.

Fantastic - a masterpiece of mood. Some of the most amazing experiences I have had in theater - flying through the world, the lovely overlay, and on and on. One of the hardest acts to follow - left me totally satisfied... and, in truth, has not left me. Just give it a few minutes of thought and see how real it felt.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve in 2017 as a sequel to the 1982 "Blade Runner" film, this American SF drama depicts the dystopia of 2049.
The screenplay appears poorly (if not badly) contrived for the sake of a sequel simply because the story of the original "Blade Runner" seems to have completed with no more possible episodes.
Since the original Blade Runner appears so good, the sequel lacks impacts and originality with some gratuitous and not-so-fascinating visual effects.

Pages of quotes in IMDb including this title card introduction:

Replicants are bioengineered humans, designed by Tyrell Corporation for use off-world. Their enhanced strength made them ideal slave labor. After a series of violent rebellions, their manufacture became prohibited and Tyrell Corp went bankrupt.

The collapse of ecosystems in the mid 2020s led to the rise of industrialist Niander Wallace, whose mastery of synthetic farming averted famine. Wallace acquired the remains of Tyrell Corp and created a new line of replicants who obey. Many older model replicants - Nexus 8s with open-ended lifespans - survived. They are hunted down and 'retired'

Those that hunt them still go by the name... Blade Runner.
