I see what some people are saying but I it seems like there's a bunch of folks having a little whine and a moan over what is, after all, a free pass. I too have, on more than one occasion, gone well out of my way only to have just missed one. There's always another opportunity and I've had good success by going to some of the smaller branches. Nice way to explore. Seven days seems appropriate, it can be hard to organize a family outing on short notice, this way there's a bit of flexibility. So thank you Ottawa Library, I very much appreciate these passes, so don't let all this indignant hand-wringing get you down. You guys do great work.

Passes are awesome when you can get them. Would like to humbly suggest decreasing the length of time you can borrow it. A week is quite a bit of time to have a pass you may only use for one day. And maybe splitting the passes i.e. instead of 1 pass for 3 museums, have 3 passes available.

The system works fine. There are more than 150 instances of this pass in the OPL system across all the branches. I've never had an issue getting a pass the day I wanted it (and I do get one of the museum/gallery passes about once every other week). Be prepared to check availability of the pass and to make your way to where it is available at the time it is available.

The new First come First Serve is a better policy for these cards.
People that suggest reserve item policy probably never saw how harder it was before the policy got change.

To help the accessibility I suggest:
1. Increase the fine for overdue.

2. Do not allow people to return the pass at other branch than the original one. Or if it can't be implement easily, charge an increase fine if the card is not return to the original branch. This to reduce the Transit that take a lots of time and probably add overhead work.

3. Multiples museum on 1 Card. Could they be split on each their own card? Probably most people do only one in the period. It would allow a family to go to one museum, another to go to the other museum.

I've managed to check a few of these out over the past few years - I think the current system works just fine. Having to wait via a holds-based system would just take too long for one's turn to come around.

If anything were to be changed, I'd suggest stiffer fines for late returns.

For the second time this item shows available at a branch i fly over to pick up only to be told they cant find it or it must still be in transit. Explanation: its a computer system that isnt perfect :( such a disappointment. Unless you have all the time in the world to sit by the counter and wait for it to be placed there , its practically impossible to check it out. Change it to a normal check out and not first come first serve basis.

I don't need a museum pass which allows me to go to three museums. A museum pass for just one museum would be fine for me.

Is there a reason why the library maintains this much-hated (from the comments I read) "first-come/first served" policy for museum passes ? If so, it might be an idea that the library make its stubborn rationale for this system viewable on its web site so we can all read it and try to understand the logic. Because so many are frustrated by it, myself included.

I am newly retired and have lots of time on my hands and had a friend suggest I investigate a museum pass and accompany her and her granddaughter to a museum sometime this summer. Any time this summer ! I had the whole summer and came up empty because of this insurmountable first come, first served policy.

Can I suggest that you perhaps cater to the masses instead of the lucky few and change your system ? Make a waiting list for the museum passes like any other item. After the notification has been made to the person who has finally become eligible for one, they should be allowed only one day to come in and pick it up. If they miss their precious window, they can put their name back on the waiting list. These are too precious to be sitting around. Limit the loan period they have it for to 2 or 3 days - tops ! people will still make use of them, but more efficiently - you will see. People will understand these tougher rules because they will understand the demand and that they have to watch for when their turn is coming up and be ready to pick it up and to use it. And make the penalty for late return fairly harsh - perhaps the amount should be the admission price to the museum for every day the person is late in returning it. If a formidable fine is not palatable with the library, then revoke the client's museum pass reservation privilege for a considerable time period. I think steps like these would help make the system more fair and the passes even more valued

Have been waiting weeks for an express pass to go to the museum. They should make more or limit it to 2&3 days use to make it more fair to other who are waiting and have ben waiting forever

It seems ridiculous that so many are way overdue! Library is excellent in most respects but needs to have a better plan for this particular high demand museum pass!
