Whose kitchen does not have a bottle of the Rooster sauce? This short documentary featured the makings of the source, its main jalapeño supplier, origins of sriracha from Thailand and interviews lots of Americans who love sriracha. There have been tons of news coverage of this sauce, from LA Times to Smithsonian Magazine, since the threat of shortage a couple of years ago when the city of Irwindale's requested to halt production at the Sriracha plant because of odor complaints. Now we know:

Huy Fong is named after the ship that Tran boarded as a refugee after the fall of Saigon.

David Tran uses a rooster in the company logo because he was born in the year of the rooster.

Sriracha originated in a small coastal town southeast of Bangkok called Si Racha, where the condiment is served with omelets and local seafood.
