Strange story of mistaken elephant. The man dealt with an orphaned elephant as a kid. By the time he left home the elephant was in a circus.

The man designed the biggest mall in the world. Located in china. It never really reached capacity and became derelict. The government ordered it torn down. At yhis time his marriage has some trouble.

Then he sees the elephant and thinks of his childood. A better time far from troubles. He starts believing its his childhood pet. He buys it, and brings it home. Upsetting the mans wife more. He takes the elephant planning on giving it to his elderly uncle. But finds things have changed since he's been gone. The uncle can't take the elephant.

Trying to get back home there are hazards, a homeless man, and police. He tries to help the homless man and tries to talk police into letting him go.

He realizes its not the same animal after a talk with his uncle. He finds a place for the elephant and tries to fix his marriage. The elephant is a escape artist and gets away more than once.

Rather understated and disjointed storytelling. Or was it simply the cultural dissonance?
Fast-forwarding allowed me to at least figure out the story, because so much of it hadn't made sense.
