I was fairly disappointed when playing the game. The graphics does a great job of hiding the problems of the game, such things like the attempt of facial recognition for all the NPCs and main character seen in Mass Effect Andromeda, they tried something that would seem cool and failed to accomplish it. Now that's easy to look past as graphics doesn't define the game. The combat firstly doesn't give you any room to fight with your own style, the skill points don't allow you to branch out into creative means of combat, the skill points allow you to progress the game which gives the player minimal choices in encounters, feeling forced. The story branches off into a stale turn of events as the NPCs lack any connections to the player, becoming empty husks in which you need to get your quests from to gain XP. Overall the experience of this game is artificial as the player is left little to no choice for being an 'open world game', leaving you to explore Aloy's adventure instead of carving one your own.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is an open-world, action, adventure, rpg. It's set in a post-apocalyptic world, with robot animals roaming the landscape. The graphics in the game are gorgeous, being incredible to look at and admire. The gameplay is fun, with discovering new "creatures: in the vast world and learning their weaknesses and abilities. The designs for the different robots also feel fresh and unique from one another wether they be gigantic, lumbering, behemoths, or fast and agile, with the ability to cloak. Upgrading your gear as well as your character is motivating and captivating. The story is interesting as you learn about how these robotic creature came into existence and why they dominate most of the land. The side-quests can feel a bit repetitive and acquiring high tier gear can feel like a bit of a grind. The game is fun and really exciting to explore, unearthing this real sense of discovery and adventure in the player. Rating: 4 out of 5

In Horizon Zero Dawn Players take on the role of Aloy, a skilled huntress and warrior who joins the Nora tribe which is quickly attacked by a group of exiles known as the eclipse. Aloy must journey across the land in order to stop the eclipse from taking over. Horizon Zero Dawn is exactly what the open world genre of gaming needed. Horizon Zero Dawn puts its players in the unique setting of primitive humans against robotic dinosaurs. Horizon delivers what so many gamers have been asking for, since open world games like fallout and skyrim have taken center stage. A good story, amazing visuals, a large open world with plenty of interaction, tons of player choice, and gameplay that is challenging and well progressed. Too many open world games released today feel uncomplete, or as though they are missing a few key aspects. Horizon Zero Dawn hits all the right targets with brilliant execution.

Stunning-looking game; interesting gameplay loop, you can choose to be stealthy or go all out (if you have the reflexes for it).

Story is interesting, although the ending is a bit of cliffhanger.

Game does not include the Frozen Wilds DLC.

Pretty disappointed with this game. I felt it is directed more towards children or teens. Yes, the graphics are beautiful but the mechanized beasts seemed pretty dumb. The story line of the outcasts seems a little cliche. Wanted to like this game but gave it up after 30 minutes due to boredom. If you want a much better more mature, gritty and moving, realistic game try Far Cry Primal.

Does this include the extended "Frozen wilds" as well? I'm guessing not...but wanted to know

Absolutely fantastic game!! Probably within my top 5 of all time. Loved how the themes of legacy and heritage drove the story line. Never grew bored of the game's mechanics. Explored every inch of this stunning world, seeking out all its secrets, and taking plenty of photos with the game's unusually robust photo mode. I could just go on and on about things like the little details, the machine designs, the sounds, the music, the diversity among the npcs... Finally, Aloy was just a really great character. She's determined, driven, curious, compassionate, and a survivor; I loved getting to know her better. Guerilla Games is worthy of the highest praise, few companies achieve such a level of mastery on a new IP.

Most importantly - a great story. Really cool take on a world that was taken over by robots and the human civilizations that re-emerge. The hero of the story is incidentally trying to understand what happened. Very good.

Graphics are really good, the gameplay is fluid and smooth, and it's a typical open-world game - liberate camps from bandits, get side achievements from hunts, ride around on different animal-style machines.

Highly recommended.

I'll be totally honest here in saying I really can't stand games like this one. Horizon Zero Dawn is basically an open world Tomb Raider, down to the different arrows and environment design. I'll admit at least this game has color but for me there's just no substance. I'd put this game in the same category as games like Tomb Raider, Uncharted, and The Last of Us. Games that are so focused on looking pretty, showing off set pieces, and telling a deep brooding story that they forget that they're games. If you like games like that then you'll have a good time here I just didn't have fun with it at all.

A fantastic first entry, to what I hope, becomes a larger series. The landscape is diverse and stunning to see in 4K

The design of the machines and the depth of story put into the world in general is so detailed that it never stops being engaging. One of the few games I've 100% completed in my two decades of gaming and I'm still left wanting more.
