Too much soap-opera is added to the story in this police mystery series.

Good plot twists. Havers is a great character. The final Helen is so neurotic and unappealing, I am not understanding his infatuation. The actress is uninteresting and the role is one dimensional, simply negative all the time. Detracts from show.

It was nice to watch all of the films in proper order, but now that I've seen them so close together, I see that they've had three actresses play the role of Helen. And the characters of Deborah and Simon Allcourt-St. James (from the books) hardly even make an appearance in the movie version. I've read all of the books that this series is based on, and had a hard time getting used to the actor that plays Lynley (since women were supposed to fall in love with the gorgeous blonde guy immediately). He's growing on me now, but I certainly didn't find him to be a ladies man when I first saw him. As a whole, I'm glad that I read the books first, as it would have been hard to follow some of the stories otherwise.
