Add a CommentA well-done teen fantasy with an Asian influence. Dark and refreshingly less romance-y than many teen fantasies. Will definitely be checking out the sequel, because there is definitely more to this story!
Geisha's with powers. The author spent way too much time describing fabrics , garments and accessories
We read this for the YA for Grownups bookclub, and what a fun read it was! Thoroughly spooky, this is a great first book in a fantasy/horror series and I'm curious to read more within this universe to see what happens next. This book is a great read-a-like if you love Garth Nix's Abhorsen series or anything written by Leigh Bardugo.
I just could not get into the book. I did not like how they went back and forth between the past and present. It also seemed like the characters would be in one city and they all of a sudden they were somewhere else and I had no idea why.
It was interesting reading this and emersing myself in the colorful, new culture was a bit difficult at times, but honestly the last page made it all worth it. I do so love it when a unexpected ship sails out of left field.
This is one of those books recommended to me by others. I adored the gorgeous settings and descriptive writing... until that is all that this book became and I started to lose interest. The first half of the book flows well and at a fast enough pace to keep it interesting but I felt the story slowed down and I ended up putting it down. A couple months passed and I checked out the downloadable audiobook, much better! If you enjoy world building and descriptive language you might consider this title, but I would definitely go with the audio version if you decide to give this book a shot.
if memories of a geisha had magical creatures and witches that called themselves asha. Can take some time to get into as the first few chapters are all introductions into the world of asha. I didn't mind this that much, might not be for everyone.
I really enjoyed this book.
I really like this book. It's a bit confusing at first, but if you pay attention while you read it's very good. I especially like the parts in the present, because it's kind of eerie and I think Tea speaks with a nice rhythm.
i love it
