"In 1962 Hitchcock and Truffaut locked themselves away in Hollywood for a week to excavate the secrets behind the mise-en-scene in cinema. Based on the original recordings of this meeting-used to produce the mythical book, Hitchcock/Truffaut-this film illustrates the greatest cinema lesson of all time and plummets us into the world of the creator of Psycho, The Birds, and Vertigo."--
"En 1962, Hitchcock et Truffaut s’enferment pendant une semaine à Hollywood pour mettre à jour les secrets de la mise en scène au cinéma. A partir des enregistrements originaux de cette rencontre qui servirent à élaborer le livre mythique Le Cinéma selon Hitchcock, ce film met en image la plus grande leçon de cinéma de tous les temps, et nous plonge dans l’univers de l’auteur de Psychose, Les Oiseaux et Sueurs froides."--

so far, we have a negative, and a positive, review. I weigh in on the positive side. the dvd appears not to be of significant depth, but the lengthy treatment of the difficult movie, VERT
IGO, and the seemingly horrific PSYCHO, make this a valuable addition to the cinephiles' experience of collection. There is a token dealing with Truffaut's film career. Still haven't seen JULES AND JIM.....

Long drawn out affair that offers very little insight into either Hitchcock or Truffaut. Sub titles almost impossible to read - often white on white background. Voices overlaying one another in two different languages - yes I know that is how it was recorded but it makes for a lousy documentary. Can't recommend this one.

A documentary exploration of the seminal text of the 1960s, HITCHCOCK/TRUFFAUT, with plenty of great interview clips of Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Peter Bogdanovich, Richard Linklater et al. This film communicates an almost tactile love of cinema. Heavy emphasis on VERTIGO and PSYCHO. Would have been nice to have a sweeping summation of Hitchcock's oeuvre from the silent era to FAMILY PLOT, but the viewer does come away with a greater appreciation for his work as well as what a mensch Truffaut was.
