It’s not easy being a self-appointed authority on health and nutrition. I need to keep up with the latest research so I can confidently tell other people what they’re doing wrong. Fortunately, I can turn to books like James Hamblin’s “If Our Bodies Could Talk: A Guide to Operating and Maintaining a Human Body.” At about 150 chapters, the book is certainly full of information. Its main focus, though, is encouraging healthy (pun intended) skepticism about fads and “silver bullets” for treating problems. Our bodies are enormously complex, and we should be highly suspicious of quick and easy shortcuts to wellness. Also, we should be eating more fiber.
