Female Sandinistas Work Following the Revolution Ca. 1985Streaming Video - 1985
Founded in 1963, the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) waged a long and bloody revolution against the Somoza dictatorship, a single family who ruled Nicaragua from 1934 until their exile in 1979. In the FSLN women fought alongside men as equals; following the successful revolution the new government, led by president Daniel Ortega, passed laws granting women "equal status at work and in the family".
