Snow White revised for the 21st century: keeping the Evil Queen stepmother but giving Snow White a posse to take her on. Excellent special effects (the fairyland scene is truly enchanting, the spirit-drinking scenes truly scary, the sweeping fight up the Irish beach truly inspiring, the poisoned apple truly nightmarish, etc.) and a quick-moving storyline, with grumpy dwarves who happen to like good music and dancing. Charlize Theron is awesome in her icy pathology (with a backstory to explain her sad childhood and a creepy effect on her relationship with her brother); Kristin Stewart is far less wooden than usual; and Chris Hemsworth is the possible Prince Charming. All this and a happy ending, too. However, because of the violence, not recommended for children under 12.

I liked this DVD. It is very scary even for adults. It is a little sexual. I do not recommend it for children. This story is very different than Disney' s version. There is a lot of graphic violence. In the end the good guys win even though they are outnumbered. It has a moral story showing it is better to have a kind innocent heart than a wicked malicious heart. There is lots of fight scenes. The story moves along quickly.

I couldn't finish it - had more worthwhile things to do with my time; completed all except the final 15 minutes or so of the film.

The acting is not terrible. The writing is generally atrocious - utterly formulaic plot and progression. The best component of the movie is the set of dwarves and their heroic exploits; sadly, they only arrive after the movie is more than halfway complete, and don't get much screen-time after that. Some of the most entertaining scenes are the five minutes of Snow White arriving at the realm in which the dwarves live - there is a very fantastical and wonderful, youthful, faerie-tale spirit contained within these scenes. If the character of these scenes could have somehow infused the entire movie, it could well have been a gorgeous, entertaining, faerie-tale epic.

As it is, the vast majority of the movie is simple, mindless, Hollywood drivel. This did not need to be produced.

This movie was sufficiently good to deserve a sequal. The problem is, how do you build on Happily Ever After?

Absolutely gorgeous costumes. What a fun film to watch. Really enjoyed this as a great fairy tale remake.

Surprisingly entertaining. Not too fond of Kristen Stewart as Snow White but the rest of the characters shine through. An impressive and darker depiction of the simple fairy tale.

If you like larger-than-life-AMERICAN remakes of fairy tales, you'll probably love this. Everybody else will cringe. Desperate for sure-buck formulas, Hollywood has been mining fantasy [especially comic-books because they're already visual] for years, but they have zero feel for them, basically turning them into hamfests. Malificent is a rare example of a success in this genre. They're generally like this, groaners, devoid of an atom of originality or fidelity to the originals.
Anyway, if you like Game of Thrones and similar mass market fodder, you'll love this.

typical fantasy movie with an interesting twist on the snow white story. I liked the appearance of the armor, weapons, and fight scenes looked good. Charlize did a great job as the queen and helped carry the movie.

Beautiful sights and sounds. Well chosen characters, especially the queen and her brother. A fun movie and script.

Empty and a waste. What a colossal miscast.Who ever said that girl (stewart) could be taken as "SNOW WHITE" are you serious? please stop!! THe evil queen was played exceptionally well though, it was like Theron was born to play her. Its always good to see Hemsworth. Because he graced this movie, it gets this rating.

A fun movie. Great characters in the Queen and her her brother. The cinematography and the music score were outstanding.

This was a surprisingly entertaining film…but only if you’re really into the fantasy genre. I thought Theron was great but wished someone else had played Snow White.

I'd read reviews so expected this to stink, and I was not disappointed. They actually say "great beauty, black hair, lips red as blood, skin white as snow" and then present two not-supermodel brown-haired actresses with ordinary Caucasian skin who sometimes wear cherry lipgloss, and sometimes don't. This website's IMDB quote says the huntsman was ordered to take Snow White into the woods -- not in this movie he wasn't. The "mentor" and "quest" business is also a great distortion of the truth; the mentoring consists of "BTW here's how to stab a guy with a knife" and the "quest" consists of "I'm sick of this queen, let's go get her, who's with me?" followed by an epic battle. I spent a while trying to figure out who was the worst actor, then got distracted by some truly terrible dialogue. Is it possible each actor was trying out a different accent for fun, and were told voices would be redubbed later on? I suspect they each got random fortune cookies saying "camp" "comic" "serious drama" "children's cartoon" "greek tragedy" and acted accordingly for that day's filming. The special effects and epic battle scenes reminded me of Lord of the Rings, so with all that money could they not have bought a plot? I watched the extended version, it was indeed very long, and mostly enjoyable if you weren't expecting anything, so probably a great movie to watch if you have the flu.

I got confused for some of it and the story was just annoying. I didn't enjoy it at all.

Kristen Stewart really drags this movie down. Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth are great so overall it comes out average.

If you haven't seen it ,don't bother. Terrible, not only are we supposed to believe Kristen Stewart is fairer than Charlize, we are meant to believe she can act.

Lame. Holywood, or wherever this tripe came from, has run dry. Almost half way into the movie and nothing happened. Depended too much on special effects at the expense of story, acting, plot, character development or anything of interest. I wish I had turned it off half way through. Two hours wasted. Don't bother.

This a play on the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs story. Very interesting interpretation. Well done, especially the special effects and Charlize Theron puts on a great show.

I enjoy this kind of storybook fantasy and this movie delivered quite well on it, it's altogether much better than most films in the genre, and exceeded my expectations. Both the Dark Forest and the Enchanted Forest looked great, and the whole film had a certain visual panache that helped push this over 4 stars.
