Ever since I read Only Time Will Tell, the first in the Clifton Chronicles, I was waiting eagerly for this book and it did not disappoint. Archer takes the story of the Barringtons and the Cliftons along new and previously uncharted territory in a gripping novel. I turned the pages fast and furiously only to find that the ending is again a cliffhanger! Now I’m waiting for the next one… (submitted by library customer MA)
This second in the series is marginally better, if only because we know the characters. Also the book's cut up in larger chunks that aren't as repetitive of action as in the first. Still, the characters tend to be very "cardboard," either very saintly or total villains. The ending is a complete cliffhanger that will require reading book 3, clearly Archer's intent. A guilty pleasure; I read the large print version in 24 hrs.
#2 in the series THE CLIFTON CHRONICLES, The series only gets better, with a great surprising ending. Looking forward to #3
Implausible and poorly written. Can't believe I found it on a bestseller list!
I picked up this book not knowing it was part of a serie so I will read the first one. I loved the Sins of the Father kept me reading every spare minute I had.
Looking forward to the new one.
Yep, after all these years and a prison sentence, our Kane and Abel author has not lost his touch. Grabs you and zips right along
Finished this 2nd of the trilogy within 2 days. Excellent and can't wait to read the third.
Good book with fine historical content. The ending was rather abrupt, resulting in the loss of a star from me.
I liked this book but not as well as the first one. I thought it was going to be a trilogy, and now I read there will be five books! Of course I will read all of them. By the time the 3rd one is published I am not sure I will remember the details of the first two books! Archer has a way of making the characters seem real (because they do some of the dumb things we all do at times in our lives). Easy to relate to the characters, and that is what makes a good book.
Great continuation of the Clifton story. Glad to hear there's going to be 5 books. Can't wait for next one. A+ book.
Book 2 of the Clifton chronicles starts exactly where book 1 left off. Harry is imprisoned as part of a mistaken identity, his mother thinks he?s dead and Emma is searching for him as she believes he is alive (but has nothing to base it on except an unopened letter at Maise?s in Harry?s handwriting). This series is all about plot and it?s pretty fun to watch it unfold. Don?t expect to get deeply into the characters because it just isn?t going to happen. On the list of annoying things is that money continually falls into the laps of the ?good? characters. Also, WWII is barely mentioned and those who die are conveniently the lower class.
Why are all of you great readers and commenters think this is the second of a trilogy? Read the details of the book.....it is a series of five!
it was a very enjoyable book. I preferred the first in the series so far. That being said this one was hard to put down and I finished it in 2 days. easy read with great characters
This is a sequel to Archer's previous book called Only Time Will Tell. It continues with the story of Harry Clifton and will be enjoyed by those that like family sagas. The ending was inconclusive but was definately a cliffhanger.
The second in the trilogy. I really enjoyed the continuation of the story and can't wait for the third book in the series.
