The book is told by the main character Logan's voice. The things that I liked about this book are: 1. It told from a males point of view, Logan our hero if you can call him that struggles throughout the book, with the situations he finds himself in and his self. He makes a lot of dumb moves and admits it. He does flounder about, but does try to correct it. It’s difficult, he’s male lives in a small town, and is very heterosexual which doesn't help. 2.The story takes place in rural America. The fact that the characters are not living in a big city adds to the story. They can’t get lost in the city, they have to deal with things up close since as Logan mentions at the end of the book. He has spent 18 years going to school with the same people. 3.There are adults who play a part in the story. The Parents in the story play a role in moving the story forward. Because of the subject, you see how the “grown ups” deal with it, and how they influence kids by what they think is right. You can understand Sage’s father’s point .It’s a cruel world for people like Sage, but then you realize he’s not helping the situation. Why? Because he’s male, lives in America and is very heterosexual.Although he’s willing to move his family from place to place he does it out of shame because of Sage, not to support her. 4. The book it deals with teens sexuality and gender. Sage is a male who lives as a female. Logan is a male who finds he is attracted to Sage and that’s the rub. He spends most of the book trying to figure out a few things about his self. Does his attraction to Sage makes him gay? What would people say if they found out what Sage was? What would his friends think if they knew? How could he be attracted to Sage knowing what Sage is? How could he be supportive of Sage knowing what she is? I found this more enjoyable than I thought I would. And hope I can get some teens to read it. The author also provides organizations and web-site that support teens dealing with gender issues. Kudos

I liked a lot, but didn't love this book. I was glad to read about a transgender relationship and a lot of the difficulties and extreme feelings caused by the relationship rang true. I thought it was fascinating to watch Logan work through his emotions and experience such a wide range of feelings from attraction to hate to lust to concern to everything else. It's hard for me to put my finger on the parts I did not like - I felt like the secondary characters weren't fleshed out and were mostly superfluous. And I guess I just found some parts of the story to be slow. But overall I would definitely recommend this and was really happy to read about these characters.

This book moved me incredibly deeply. I believe that many readers may feel unsatisfied by the conclusion, or lack of "closure", but this is what made the story to believable and "relate-able". This is truly a profound story about what it means to truly be one's genuine self.

I really liked this book. It's not all that imaginary because stuff like this happens in real life. It even says at the end that some of the novel is based on real peoples experiences. I loved the characters, and the ending was real. Most books have happy endings that probably wouldn't happen, this book on the other hand has the only realistic ending there could be, and it was beautiful. I recommend this book to everyone because it really is a good story to read. :)

This is a book that takes the the topic of transgender relationships very seriously and very accurately. It takes place in Missouri, and after reading it I spoke with some friends who live there, and they vouched for its authenticity. It's a beautiful and wrenching story of young love, with dashes of humor throughout. Couldn't put it down!

I coughed violently, trying to ignore the area below her neck. "Fine, fine, good to see you, didn't know you'd be here!" "Yeah, my grade--" "Great! Well, I'm going to see Tim!" I dog paddled off trying to think of a logical explanation for what I'd seen. Sage had breasts. Now, from the age of about eleven, every straight guy cannot stop thinking about boobs. Dirty magazines, porno movies, swimsuit catalogs, women's health pamphlets...We drool over whatever we can get our hands on. A lucky few get their hands on the real thing. Sage had the real thing.
