Remy always knows the perfect time to give a boyfriend "The Speech" telling him it's over-after the initial romantic whirl, but before the reality of an actual relationship hits. Her friends tease that her boyfriend tally is nearing the triple digit mark, but she's a girl who knows just how to avoid any messy emotional entanglement. After all, she's had the example of her five-times-married mother to show her what not to do. So what, then, is it about Dexter that makes it so hard for her to follow her own rules? He's everything she hates: messy, disorganized, much too vulnerable, impulsive, and worst of all, a musician like her father: the father Remy never knew, the father who wrote a famous song for her, the father who disappeared from her life. Sarah Dessen's most captivating novel yet introduces readers to a girl who believes her heart is made of stone-and the boy who proves her wrong.

OVERALL: Amazing :D *first off this is the first book i ever finished by Sarah Dessen, I read the beginning other others book, but i put it off cause ofstuff* Okay. From the cover (i judge books by their covers, sue me) I knew that I was going to love this book. First few pages- Long, tiresome. I remember me feeling like it took forever to go to Chapter 2. Honestly, I don't really love Remy's character or how she views things. (Maybe because she's like the exact opposite of me) What I really like, though, is the development of her character through the novel. Dexter-He's sweet, the positive, optimistic bubbly guy. ~The storyline is unclear from the start, not being able to grasp much from the blurb. At the middle of the book, I didn't know how much longer Sarah Dessen could continue this novel. I felt like it was dragged. Not much action really taking place. But I was wrong. What i just wrote might sound depressing and may mislead you, but this book is amazing. Later, it starts to take off, 100 pages being a quick whizz. The changes are deep. It has meaningful quotes there about love and life and such things. READ THIS BOOK! :D I just finished it today and I had to write a review, just cause. I don't normally write reviews. Not even for Divergent or Insurgent (gasp)

I remember sneaking this book home from the school library because I knew my parents wouldnt approve of me reading romance novels. I started the book, and it was remarkably beautiful. Unfortunately I got bonbarded under the pressure of homework and exams so I never got to finish. Definitely going back to look for it at the library. Even if I have to sneak it again.

Possibly my favourite Sarah Dessen book ever. Really enjoyed the story, all the characters and had several laugh-out-loud moments.

Really good. Dexter is so persistent in the beginning that I wanted to smack him! But he turned out to be a real sweetheart in the end.

It was hard for me to relate to Remy at the beginning, but Sarah Dessen has a way of drawing me into her books. I don't know what it is, but I know this is another book that will come back to me again and again...

"Watching him go. What a weird feeling that was. I decided I didn't like it. Not at all" (Dessen 203).

"I saw her in the produce section late last Saturday. It hadn't been but seven days since she went away. Once she'd loved my filet mignon, my carnivore inklings, but now she was a vegan princess, living off of beans. She'd given up the cheese and bacon, sworn off Burger King, and when I wouldn't do the same she gave me back my ring. I stood there my the romaine lettuce, feeling my heart pine, wishing that this meatless beauty still would be all mine. She turned around to go to checkout, fifteen items or less. And I knew this was the last go-round, so this is what I said. Don't you ever give me no rotten tomato, 'cause all I ever wanted was your sweet potato. Mashed, whipped, creamed, smothered, chunked, and diced, anyway you fix it baby sure tastes nice." -The Potato Song

"You know, when it works, love is pretty amazing. It's not overrated. There's a reason for all those songs."
