I have seen many documentaries on Bob Marley and have read a couple of very good bios ('Catch A Fire' by Timothy White & 'Bob Marley' by Stephen Davis)on him and Marley may be the most impressive of them all. Includes great interviews with many people close to him in his life. Recommend this to anyone intersested in Bob Marley and his beliefs

The son of a white man, ostracized as a half caste, Bob preached racial harmony. After all Bob's work for Africa, wife Rita's epitaph: Bob died because he was too white. She said Bob's cancer was a "white person's sickness; it was the whiteness in him that caused this disease." So much of race talk is based on the mistaken belief that social racial identities have a real biological correspondence. Morgan Freemen says Obama isn't the first black president because he's not really black, just like Bob Marley--too much "white blood" to qualify. (they think their blood is literally white). Henry Louis Gates's DNA test shows Condoleza Rice is 50% black. What is the % required to rate real black? 100%? If the albino child of two black parents becomes president he will be the first black pres. according to Morgan's definition. Race as social identity has no biological counterpart. But these superstitions about skin color are real and lead to genocide. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/swaziland/7956458/Albino-girl-11-killed-and-beheaded-in-Swaziland-for-witchcraft.html http://www.skincancer.org/prevention/skin-cancer-and-skin-of-color

Misconceptions about genetics aside, this is a great way to connect and learn about a great man and peacemaker. I was moved by several of the scenes, and the persons interviewed were highly interesting. This was a great way for me to rekindle a connection to Reggae music and to further appreciate Rastafarianism. As Bob Marley said, "You cannot forget your past" ...a lyric I should remember!
