Add a CommentFresh take on mercenary type movies. Based on an alegedly true story. You won't hear about what our elite military people do, unless you read books and who does that? Don't count on the mass media to tell you. Has more in common with day of the Jackal than Rambo.
I like Jason and Clive, but this movie seemed long and was way too complicated. Too much talking and not enough action.
The gunplay, fight scenes and chases are all done well, and any movie with "The Stathe," Robert de Niro and Clive Owen in is worth watching, but, while there are some good one-liners, the script is pretty clunky. Plus the storyline is preposterous in places, as when someone breaks into an SAS camp by parking a truck against the fence and jumping in off the roof, then infiltrates an SAS training exercise. And there are too many Aussie actors pretending (amatueurishly) to be Brits.
This movie was too fast too furious plot-wise, but then again it was fairly entertaining. The tense confrontations between Owen and Statham was definitely one of my favourite scenes.
DeNiro and Statham and Owen lacked chemistry so much I thought they might have been filmed individually on separate occasions. Unfortunately a forgettable movie.
The Feather Men is one of my favourite books, but this movie doesn't do it justice. Still, the action and cast are good.
Fair – Killer Elite (2011) 116 min. Half-decent action film all around that is based on a true story. The only reservation I had with this film is the complexity in following along with all the plot turns. The film should be simple enough but the myriad of characters dilutes the film’s effectiveness. By the end of the film, though enjoyable in the moment, I wasn’t left with much.
Wow what a long movie. Maybe it was just me? Good action, violence and locations in this movie, though I thought the whole love thing should have been left out. Di Niro is looking really old, but still can kick ass. If you have nothing to do it's good to kill an afternoon, other then that I think I would only watch it once. 2 stars
The best film I've seen in the "assassin-genre - in a very long while! DeNiro's a bit of a waste... but Clive Owen and Jason Statham are terrific... and the subtext in which the main characters find themselves, beyond their intended targets, makes for some really thought provoking moments! It leaves you to wonder, since it's supposedly based on true incidents - just how much of it is really true - and if it is - it begs the question as to whether there really is a difference between the "good guys" and "bad guys" in the new international 'cold war' involving world rights to oil reserves!
