Another easy, campy read in the Sookie Stackhouse series. As another reader posted, each book feelsl like a chapter in a larger story and I wouldn't recommend that someone just pick up the series in the middle. This book was entertaining though and had action and intrigue storylines mixed into the usual plot lines.

The seventh book of the Southern Vampire Series, Sookie Stackhouse has been hired by the Queen of Louisiana to act as her psychic at the long anticipated vampire summit. Sookie knows that she will also be called upon as the sole witness to the death of the Queen's husband, and rival, the King of Arkansas. The Queen is no longer as powerful as she used to be due to Hurricane Katrina's devastation to her followers and her economic holdings. This has put her in a vulnerable position, making her desire to have Sookie at her side even stronger. Intertwined with this is a plot by a splinter group of the Fellowship of the Sun that wants to turn back the vampire tide. Meanwhile, her relationship with Quinn the weretiger is tested when she finds out his mysterious past and her bond with Eric deepens. Bill is still floating around, clearly still attached to Sookie. There are some other regulars that make appearances in the story. It's nice to see that author Charlaine Harris has woven what is happening in our world with the stories of Sookie and her vampires. It is also nice to see that Sookie is not a fainting, frail heroine. She tries to take charge of her life and fight back when things go bad. Good read.

Ah, the vampire summit! Boy did you really advance the overall story. Definitely worth reading for a look at the queen of Louisiana and the greater vampire picture at large.

While I still enjoy the characters, I'm finding that each book now feels just like a chapter in a larger book, and don't stand as stories of their own. This would be alright if I felt like there was an ultimate end to the series. Not the best in the series, but not the worst either. The ending left too many unanswered questions, which I would have preferred to see a resolution too.

One of the best in series! Telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse is taken along to read human minds at a vampire conference. Persevere through the first chapter or two as Harris re-introduces all the previous characters (and there are a lot of them by now!) You will be rewarded early in the book as the action starts and hardly stops till the end. Lots of funny, imaginative and gory details plus old and new loves vying for Sookie's heart. Present "boyfriend" Quinn (actually a weretiger) worries she will be whisked away by Viking Vampire Eric who gets closer to Sookie than ever before when they exchange blood. First boyfriend Bill still lingers on the sidelines and you almost feel sorry for him as regrets his deceit and pines for the lovely Sookie. I love this series and this installment did not let me down.
